In the high-stakes world of the NFL, being a head coach is one of the toughest jobs in professional sports. Coaches are constantly under intense scrutiny, facing enormous pressure to win and meet fan expectations. Every season, a handful of coaches find themselves on the infamous “hot seat,” where their job security is in jeopardy due to poor team performance or unmet expectations. Even the most successful coaches aren’t immune, as the NFL is a league where quick results are demanded, and patience often runs thin.
Below is the ranking of all 32 current NFL coaches, with some facing more heat than others.
Red Hot
Dallas Cowboys | Mike McCarthy – The defense continues to look terrible. The Ravens did whatever they wanted to in Week 3.
Hired: January 8, 2020
Chicago Bears | Matt Eberflus – If his gameplan is to get Caleb Williams killed he’s doing a great job, 50+ throws in week 3. Bears fans cannot stand that the Packers beat the Colts with a backup. Shows how far the Bears still are from being a contender. Another defensive head coach for the Bears that will likely be fired.
Hired: January 27, 2022
Jacksonville Jaguars | Doug Pederson – Terrible team effort in week 3 getting blown out on National TV. Need to see progress out of Lawrence who appears to be regressing. Ownership has already said, the time to win is now.
Hired: February 3, 2022
Warming Up
Philadelphia Eagles | Nick Sirianni – After the debacle at the end of 2023 it’s Super Bowl or bust here. Good W in Week 3 but mind-boggling play calling, week in and week out.
Hired: January 24, 2021
Sparking
New York Jets | Robert Saleh – Cooling off a bit here with a great Week 3 win. The offense still lacks down the field playmaking, but great effort out of Rodgers.
Hired: January 14, 2021
New York Giants | Brian Daboll – Put a picture of the Giants GM next to Daboll because the look from the HBO series was not good here. A W in week 3 against a Cleveland team going nowhere in 2024.
Hired: January 28, 2022
New Orleans Saints | Dennis Allen – His seat is cooling as the Saints have been dominant this looks like one of the better defenses in the league.
Hired: February 8, 2022
Carolina Panthers | Dave Canales – A good W shifting to Andy Dalton in Week 3. Keep in mind the Raiders didn’t look like they were ready to play.
Hired: January 25, 2024
Tennessee Titans | Brian Callahan – Major QB problems so far with Levis looking sloppy. Its’ a bad look when you lose to a GB team playing a QB that your team cut in the pre-season.
Hired: January 24, 2024
Indianapolis Colts | Shane Steichen – Anthony Richardson does not look like an NFL starting QB through Week 3.
Hired: February 14, 2023
Denver Broncos | Sean Payton – Most over-rated coach in the NFL, needs to stop talking and win some games. Predictable slip up game beating the Bucs in Week 3.
Hired: February 3, 2023
Cleveland Browns | Kevin Stefanski – Shouldered with the baggage of bad deals.
Hired: January 13, 2020
Baltimore Ravens | John Harbaugh – Time for a change here, the offense still has the same problem if Lamar cannot do it, this team will lose.
Hired on January 19, 2008
Cincinnati Bengals | Zac Taylor – Does every season have to start this slowly; this is more a byproduct of terrible cheap ownership.
Hired: February 4, 2019
Chill
Washington Commanders | Dan Quinn – Daniels has looked the best of the rookie QB’s, standing out in an impressive performance in a Monday win against the Bengals.
Hired: February 3, 2024
Buffalo Bills | Sean McDermott – Addition by subtraction the loss of two starting WR’s and Allen looks better than ever.
Hired: January 11, 2017
Houston Texans | DeMeco Ryans – Defense is tough and the QB looks like a future HOF’er.
Hired: January 31, 2023
Kansas City Chiefs | Andy Reid – The current gold standard in the NFL. This team looks like the Cowboys in the later part of their dynasty, they are still winning but not looking great and primed for a fall.
Hired: January 7, 2013
Las Vegas Raiders | Antonio Pierce – Done a lot with very little, he’s earned a long look with a great W against the Ravens. Week 3 no show against the Panthers was a bad look.
Hired: January 19, 2024
Los Angeles Chargers | Jim Harbaugh – Most coveted in the offseason for a reason, knows how to win with what’s in the cupboard.
Hired: January 24, 2024
Miami Dolphins | Mike McDaniel – We are going to see how good he is with Tua’s future in doubt.
Hired: February 6, 2022
New England Patriots | Jerod Mayo – A team competing hard to start the season, low expectations. The offense looked inept in Week 3.
Hired: January 17, 2024
Pittsburgh Steelers | Mike Tomlin – Great coach and yes, they can grind it out and beat bad teams but come playoff time this team will lose in round 1.
Hired: January 22, 2007
Arizona Cardinals | Jonathan Gannon – Kyler Murray top notch in Week 2, tough Week 1 loss this team is competing hard.
Hired: February 14, 202
Atlanta Falcons | Raheem Morris – It’s early but the fans are going to be calling for Michael Pennix sooner than later.
Hired: January 25, 2024
Detroit Lions | Dan Campbell – Could end up being the best coach the Lions have ever had.
Hired: January 20, 2021
Green Bay Packers | Matt LaFleur – Showed off his coaching talent winning with a QB that the Titans threw on the trash heap. Packers 2 wins without Jordan Love.
Hired: January 8, 2019
Los Angeles Rams | Sean McVay – This team is a mash unit, their offensive line is banged up, the D needs help and know both WR’s are injured. Stafford can’t do it all, but he has been great Week 3 win against the 49ers..
Hired: January 12, 2017
Minnesota Vikings | Kevin O’Connell – His greatest feat could be the resurrection of Sam Darnold.
Hired: February 16, 2022
San Francisco 49ers | Kyle Shanahan – He’s safe and probably the best other than Andy Reid. This team is in a lot of trouble with aging stars and CMC out for the first 5-6 weeks of the season.
Hired: February 6, 2017
Seattle Seahawks | Mike Macdonald – This is a very talented team that keeps its top talent because they can write big checks. One of the model NFL franchises.
Hired: January 31, 2024
Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Todd Bowles – Baker is playing as well as any QB in the NFL. This is a peaking team.
Hired: March 30, 2022
